We’ve all been there. The essay is assigned on Monday and you have every intention of starting on Tuesday. Wednesday rolls around and you vow to spend at least an hour writing a first draft. Thursday slips away and on Friday, the assignment sheet sits on your desk, stares you in the face and threatens to ruin your weekend. The next two days are inevitably riddled with anxiety, frustration, and writer’s block, and Sunday night becomes a last ditch, all night effort to produce an essay that you hope will escape your professor’s close scrutiny.
It doesn’t have to be this way! The University Center for Writing-based Learning offers a free Saturday morning service to all students at three of the suburban campuses, a convenient option for commuters and students with full-time jobs. The Suburban Campus Writing Groups offer a unique tutorial experience in which tutors and students work in collaboration to provide feedback and support for the DePaul learning community. Not only do participants receive valuable insight and feedback from multiple sources, but they also develop good writing practices, hone analytical reading skills, and improve critical thinking abilities. SCWGs are specifically designed to improve overall writing capabilities and keep writers on track in their writing processes, which may translate to fewer sleepless Sunday nights.
SCWGs are held every Saturday during the academic quarters from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the O’Hare, Oak Forest, and Naperville campuses. Students from every discipline and writing background are encouraged to attend. Whether you want to discuss possible approaches to a literary analysis essay or fine-tune an economics presentation, you will find the help and support you need at SCWG.
Leave the Sunday night drama to HBO- attend Suburban Campus Writing Groups this week!
